Overwhelm – Part 2

Overwhelm Blog part 2

Please note: this is the second of a 4-part blog.  (see Part 1)

Physiological Trauma

Our body’s complex physiology is susceptible to really just two types of overwhelm — Too Much In Not Enough Out and Too Much Out Not Enough In.

Too Much In Not Enough Out is exemplified by constipation*. Even if we are eating the best organic foods, if our bodies are not able to adequately remove the waste products from the system in a timely manner, the tissues/organs and their environment can become toxic. Speed and thoroughness of waste removal are the key factors here.**

Digestive System

There is waste that the body produces due to incomplete processing and breakdown which become intrinsic toxins (as just described). But often, and more importantly, there are extrinsic toxins we are all acquiring from the unhealthy external environment of our modern world. This can include: air and water pollutants, pesticide residues and genetically modified foods (GMOs), molecular transfer from plastic container, heavy metals, and radioactive contaminants. These extrinsic toxins are more difficult to remove from ALL tissues and therefore more damaging longterm.

Too Much Out Not Enough In is epitomized by diarrhea*. If on the other hand there is too much going out and not enough coming in, the body will get depleted of nutrients and become incapable of making healthy tissues and organs.

The two issues here are: 1) Is the quality of foods we are consuming capable of building healthy tissues? (What’s the quality of our food? How was it prepared? Are there enough nutrients in it? Are we drinking enough water to convey those nutrients?); and/or 2) Does the body see what we are eating as toxic? (Do we have food sensitivities/intolerances? Or is the food actually poisonous?)

What I’m saying here is that nutrient depletion of the cells can come from either insufficient nutrients coming in or excess nutrients going out.

The body’s response to foods that it has an allergy to or are extrinsically toxic is to immediately evacuate the bowels in order to create a clear pathway to quickly eliminate the threat. However, if our BMS cannot remove enough of the waste our body will store toxins where they can do the least damage, first in adipose/fat tissue then inside the long bones furthest from the vital organs. Once stored, these toxins are much more difficult and dangerous to eliminate, but it was the system’s best solution to a difficult problem.

A person’s unique physiological resilience or Vital Reserves will determine the length of time that their system can withstand toxicity or malnutrition before becoming overwhelmed. Because of the depletion to our Vital Reserves, either can lead to severe physiological disorders. The kinds of toxins present or nutrients deprived will determine which organs are effected. It is my belief that most nameable diseases come from one or both of these types of overwhelm which is why making healthy nutrition a life-long priority is essential for good health.

Polarity Therapy identifies 3 types of diet to cycle through for optimal health. They support the bodies distinct needs at different times. We can utilize them over the course of days, weeks, or even within a single day.  The first is the Purifying Diet, which is very alkalizing and helps the body to detoxify and eliminate built-up toxic waste from the tissues.  It includes lots of vegetables, fruits, juice fasting and may include therapeutic techniques to aide detoxification such as colon hydrotherapy, skin brushing and tongue scraping.  The second is the Health Building Diet which adds in healthy proteins, grains  and fats.  Today’s passion for wild-gathered, superfoods and superherbs would go perfectly into this diet to rebuild comprehensive health in all tissues.  The third is the Maintenance Diet, which modify the Health Building to become something you can live with longterm.

Purifying  is specifically designed as short-term course corrections to avoid or recover from Physiological Trauma.  Through the process of detoxifying and rebuilding we begin to recognize our body’s unique response to specific foods and food preparations. Health Building is the optimal diet for a healthy life.  The Maintenance Diet, therefore comes out of that understanding and is the healthiest way of eating that we can actually live with every day. Dr. Stone advocated a strictly vegetarian diet, but you may opt to add moderate amounts of organic free-range meats or wild-caught fish if that works better for your system and lifestyle today.

Electro-Magnetic Trauma

This is one of the most subtle and therefore insidious types of overwhelm because electromagnetic fields are invisible and ubiquitous. In our modern world we are surrounded by numerous frequencies and wavelengths of electromagnetic energy that no life-form has ever lived with before: from the “dirty electricity” in our homes; to WiFi and cell towers; to the cellphones, tablets and computers that are our constant companions.

The shape and frequency of this energy affects each of us, however some individuals are more resilient while other are much more dramatically affected. People with Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS) report various symptoms including: headache, fatigue, stress, sleep disturbances, skin prickling, burning sensations and rashes, and painful/achy muscles.

Electro-Magnetic Trauma can create an intolerable hypersensitivity to ALL electromagnetic signals. Today it is more important than ever to get out in nature and take regular breaks far away from our electronic devices and wired world in order to maintain our system’s healthy adaptability.

*Please note:  Diarrhea and constipation have numerous causes beyond the ones mentioned.

**Please note: the pH of the foods we eat can shift or internal environment to become more acidic or alkaline.  An alkaline internal state enables cell wall permeability which allows nutrients to enter and waste to leave. An Acidic state causes cells to become more protective, sealing their walls and holding onto both nutrients and waste.
