Become the Hero of Your Own Story!

Thought For The Day: Too often in our world we are obsessed with other people’s lives and adventures — it’s all we think about, it’s all we talk about. Whether it’s celebrities’ or politicians’ latest exploits; what’s happening with the characters in a tv show or book; a spouse, child, parent, family member or friends and what they are up to now. We so often make others the center of our world.

Are you just a minor supporting character in your own life? Do you have an insubstantial walk on roll? ‘… and also appearing.’ What would it be like to be the hero in your own story?

Try this: Take time at the end of the day or a whole day to be by yourself, with yourself. Turn off the tv, unplug the computer, put down the book or magazine and tell yourself the story of you, your day, your life. Reclaim the roll of the central character. Is your story a romantic comedy, a who-done-it, is this the tragic chapter where it all goes to sh*t before things begin to turn around for our hero. What’s our heroine gonna do next?

When we step outside of ourselves to see our struggles, triumphs and tragedies from a broader perspective we can gain immeasurable insight into the events of our life. We see themes emerging and recognize the forces at play influencing our decisions. When we can savor where we are right now; the good, bad or ugly of our current situation we become empowered in this moment. We no longer feel the need to run away from unpleasant feelings, but relish the juiciness of each and every experience.

Try it! It could change your life.
